Magenta Sunset Swiss Chard is definitely true to its name! This type of Swiss Chard sports a bright pink-purple stem and is wonderfully decorative as well as delicious. Leaves appear slightly crumpled and are good in salads.
Swiss Chard is a nutritious, green, leafy vegetable that can be easily added to all kinds of recipes. While the chard leaves are green, the stems of the plant can be different colors (such as red, pink, or yellow). Swiss Chard is perfect for early spring or fall growing, since it can handle cool temperatures and still thrive.
Planting, Growing, and Harvesting:
You may wish to soak Swiss Chard seeds for a few minutes before planting. Doing this can help speed up germination. Plant seeds in soil that is at least 50F, in a location that will receive part shade to full sun (more sun is best). Swiss Chard does not require a lot of upkeep, but be sure the soil is adequately moist with even watering.
To harvest Swiss Chard leaves, cut off the outer stalks or the whole plant above the soil line. Swiss Chard will re-grow for you to harvest again.
Recipes/How to Use:
Cooked Swiss Chard
1 bunch of Swiss Chard
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tablespoon olive oil
Salt and pepper, to taste
-Wash the Swiss Chard thoroughly, then trim the leaves from the stems. Discard stems.
-Heat a frying pan with the olive oil and garlic. Add the Swiss Chard leaves and salt and pepper, and stir. Reduce the heat, cover, and cook for 3-5 minutes more.
