Grand Rapids Lettuce has frilly, green leaves that are tender and crisp. Use this lettuce in salads or as a garnish. This quick-growing variety is also slow to bolt. Grand Rapids Lettuce is tolerant to tipburn.

It is a cool-season veggie that grows fairly quickly and offers some of the first tastes of your garden's bounty during the growing season. You can create wonderful gourmet salads that include lettuces of various sizes, shapes, colors, textures, and tastes.
Planting, Growing, and Harvesting:
Plant lettuce during cool weather, as soon as the ground can be worked in the spring. Lettuce does well in early spring and fall weather and the seedlings can tolerate a light frost. Lettuce is fine with a wide variety of soils but prefers loose soil rich with organic matter. Plant lettuce in a well-drained area with a pH around 6.0-6.8. Keep soil evenly moist.
You can start harvesting leaf lettuce when it is young, or wait for larger leaves to develop. You can even eat the thinnings that you pull up in the garden. Trim the outer leaves from the plant and use if you want the lettuce to keep growing, or harvest the entire lettuce plant by pulling or cutting it out of the ground. It is best to harvest before lettuce is overly mature since the taste can become bitter. Head lettuce is ready to harvest once the head has started to form and is large and tightly packed. Use a knife to cut off the lettuce head.

2 C. mixed salad greens
1 C. sprouts of your choice
1-2. carrots, thinly sliced
1 cucumber, sliced
1 celery stalk, chopped
Toss ingredients together and serve with your favorite salad dressing.
