It is important to encourage bees and butterflies to hang out in your garden. These pollinators are vital to a healthy, productive garden, so making the effort to attract beneficial insects is definitely worthwhile.
Bees and butterflies are attracted to pollen-heavy flowers. By planting a variety ofdesirable flowers in a certain area, you will have plenty of bees and butterflies around your garden in no time. Although just about any flowers can do the trick, some are more effective than others when it comes to attracting beneficial insects.
To create an appealing pollen buffet, plant colorful flowers in various shapes, sizes, and lengths so the insects have plenty of choices. A few ideas for annuals and perennials that can bring bees buzzing and butterflies fluttering around your garden include Marigolds, Salvia, Poppies, Sunflowers, Zinnias, and Foxgloves. These are beautiful to plant near your vegetable garden to encourage pollination and create a bee- and butterfly-friendly habitat.
To make your garden friendly to bees and butterflies, remember to limit the use of harsh insecticides nearby. A source of water for the insects is also helpful.
