• Soak the seeds in water a few hours before planting. Start indoors to improve germination success. After they sprout, place them in a warm, sunny window. Space plants 3-4 feet apart when transplanting outdoors. Rosemary is a perennial that can be grown indoors or out. In a warm climate, rosemary plants are evergreen. In cooler climates, the evergreen plant can be brought indoors during the cold months. The plant’s leaves are needle-shaped and aromatic, making it a welcome addition to the herb garden or inside the house. Planting, Growing, and Harvesting: Rosemary plants grow slowly in the beginning, but given time they will pick up speed and grow faster. Plant rosemary in well-drained, light soil with full sun for best results. Rosemary is fairly drought-tolerant. To harvest rosemary, cut sprigs from the plant with scissors or a knife. You can use fresh, or dry by hanging the rosemary for a few weeks. Recipes/How to Use: Sprinkle rosemary on meats like chicken, pork and lamb. Use to add flavor to soups, sauces, or even as a garnish. Grilled Rosemary Chicken Ingredients: 1 ½ T. olive oil ¼ tsp. salt 4 chicken breasts 2 T. fresh or dried rosemary 2 cloves garlic 1/2 C. lemon juice Directions: Mix the rosemary, lemon juice, garlic, olive oil, and salt together. Combine with chicken in a plastic bag or shallow dish, and marinate for an hour or so. Cook the marinated chicken on the grill about 6 minutes each side, until it is no longer pink inside. |
